Golf Cart Battery Equalize Charge
Equalize charging is a critical maintenance procedure for flooded lead-acid golf cart batteries, designed to resolve cell voltage imbalance, electrolyte stratification, and minor performance degradation caused by regular cycling and daily use. Unlike standard routine charging, equalization is a controlled, low-rate overcharging process that delivers a slightly higher voltage than regular charging to every battery cell in the pack. Most golf cart battery packs consist of multiple 6V or 12V lead-acid batteries connected in series, and long-term operation inevitably leads to subtle differences in cell capacity and voltage. Individual cells may drift apart by 0.15V or more for 6V batteries and 0.30V or more for 12V batteries after weeks of use, creating an unbalanced pack condition that reduces overall runtime, weakens acceleration, and shortens the entire battery pack’s service life. Without regular equalization, the weakest cells will be continuously over-discharged and over-charged, acc
