How to Store Citycoco Battery for Winter

Time:2026-10-23 Views:192

Proper winter storage is critical to preserving the performance and extending the service life of Citycoco lithium batteries, as low-temperature winter environments and long-term idle storage are the main causes of irreversible battery damage. Lithium-ion batteries used in Citycoco scooters are extremely sensitive to low temperatures; prolonged exposure to cold air will inhibit internal chemical reactions, increase internal resistance, and cause permanent capacity loss. Many users mistakenly store fully charged or completely empty batteries outdoors or in uninsulated garages during winter, leading to severe battery aging, bulging cells, or even direct scrapping after winter. Mastering scientific winter storage methods can effectively avoid these problems and maintain battery optimal performance for the next riding season.

The first core step of winter Citycoco battery storage is adjusting the battery charge level to the optimal 50%–60% state, which is the most stable voltage range for lithium battery long-term storage. A fully charged battery in winter storage will generate excessive internal pressure with temperature changes, causing cell bulging and capacity attenuation. A completely empty battery will suffer from over-discharge during self-discharge in low temperatures, leading to BMS lock-up and permanent battery failure. Users can fully charge the battery first, then ride the scooter for 5 to 10 minutes to consume excess power, keeping the battery indicator at half power, which perfectly balances cell stability and avoids low-voltage damage during dormancy.

Storage environment control is another key factor for winter battery maintenance. Citycoco batteries must be removed from the scooter and stored in a dry, ventilated, constant-temperature indoor space with a temperature maintained between 15°C and 25°C. It is strictly forbidden to store batteries outdoors, in unheated garages, car trunks, or humid basements, where low temperature and humidity will corrode battery terminals and damage internal cell structures. The storage area must be kept away from flammable materials and high-temperature heat sources to eliminate safety risks caused by battery thermal runaway. In addition, users should place the battery on a flat insulating surface instead of metal objects to prevent accidental short circuits during storage.

Regular maintenance during winter storage is indispensable to prevent battery failure. Citycoco lithium batteries will produce natural self-discharge during dormancy, with a daily power loss of about 0.5% to 1%. Users need to check the battery power every two weeks and supplement charge in time when the remaining power drops below 40% to avoid low-voltage over-discharge. It is not necessary to fully charge the battery during supplementary charging; maintaining the 50%–60% storage power level is sufficient. Before reusing the battery in spring, conduct a complete full charge and discharge cycle to activate cell activity and restore normal discharge performance, ensuring the battery works stably in the new riding cycle.
