Summer high temperatures pose severe hidden dangers to electric motorcycle batteries, making heat protection the top priority of seasonal battery maintenance. Lithium and lead-acid batteries are extremely sensitive to high-temperature environments; prolonged exposure to heat will accelerate internal chemical reactions, trigger rapid capacity decay, and even cause safety hazards such as battery bulging, thermal runaway, and spontaneous combustion. In hot summer weather, the surface temperature of electric motorcycles parked under direct sunlight can exceed 60°C in just one hour, far exceeding the battery’s safe working temperature range of 25°C to 35°C. Scientific summer heat protection measures can effectively avoid battery damage and ensure riding safety and battery durability.

Reasonable parking and avoiding long-term sun exposure are the most basic and effective heat protection methods. Riders should always choose shaded, ventilated parking areas such as underground garages, building shade, or tree shade instead of open-air sunlit spaces, especially during the high-temperature period from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Never park the electric motorcycle in closed environments like carports with poor ventilation, enclosed balconies, or tight parking sheds, as heat accumulation in closed spaces will form a high-temperature sauna environment, aggravating battery heat aging. For temporary parking on the road, try to control the time within 30 minutes under direct sunlight to prevent the battery temperature from rising sharply.

Standardized charging habits are crucial to prevent battery overheating in summer. Many riders are used to charging their electric motorcycles immediately after riding, which is a wrong operation in summer. The battery will generate a lot of heat during riding, and the internal temperature remains high after stopping. Immediate charging will superimpose charging heat and riding residual heat, leading to excessive battery temperature and damaging internal cells. It is necessary to wait for 1 to 2 hours after riding to let the battery fully cool down before charging. In addition, avoid charging in high-temperature environments; place the charger and battery in a ventilated and cool place, and do not cover the battery or charger with sundries during charging, which will block heat dissipation and cause heat accumulation.

Daily inspection and usage norms also help reduce summer battery heat damage. Regularly check the battery shell for bulging, deformation, or abnormal heating, and inspect the charging port and wiring for aging and short circuits. Once the battery feels obviously hot during charging or riding, stop using and charging immediately, and place it in a cool place for heat dissipation. Moreover, avoid overloading and long-distance high-speed continuous riding in hot summer. High-load operation will increase battery discharge current and generate extra heat, accelerating battery aging. Adhering to these summer heat protection rules can maintain stable battery performance and greatly reduce the probability of battery failure and safety accidents.
