Does Citycoco Battery Work with 36V Motor: Voltage Matching & Compatibility Analysis

Time:2026-10-28 Views:44

Many Citycoco riders have questions about voltage matching: whether a common 60V Citycoco battery can work with a 36V motor, and whether a 36V battery is compatible with a Citycoco scooter. Voltage matching is the core premise of the normal operation of electric scooter power systems. Mismatched battery and motor voltage will not only cause abnormal vehicle operation but also burn out motors, controllers, and circuits, triggering serious safety hazards. Professional compatibility analysis is essential for voltage modification and accessory replacement.

The standard operating voltage of Citycoco scooters is dominated by 60V, matching 1500W, 2000W, and 3000W brushless DC motors, which are the mainstream configuration of factory original vehicles. A standard 60V Citycoco battery cannot work normally with a 36V motor. The 60V battery output voltage is far higher than the 36V motor’s rated working voltage. Direct connection will cause excessive instantaneous voltage, overload operation of the 36V motor, rapid overheating of the coil, burning of the motor winding, and burnout of the matching 36V controller within a short time. In mild cases, the motor generates heat abnormally and has weak power; in severe cases, the circuit is short-circuited and spontaneous combustion occurs.

Conversely, a 36V battery also cannot drive a standard 60V Citycoco motor. The 60V motor and controller are designed based on 60V rated voltage. The voltage and power output of a 36V battery are insufficient, which will lead to the scooter’s inability to start normally, weak acceleration, difficulty in climbing, continuous stalling during riding, and frequent low-voltage protection power failure. Long-term low-voltage overload operation will also cause irreversible aging of the 60V motor coil and controller capacitance, greatly shortening the service life of the power system. There is no universal compatibility between 36V and 60V Citycoco power systems.

A small number of modified low-power Citycoco models are equipped with 36V 500W-800W motors, which can only be matched with dedicated 36V lithium batteries, and cannot use 60V batteries for replacement and upgrade. If riders need to modify the vehicle voltage and power, they must replace the battery, motor, and controller in a complete set, and it is forbidden to mix and match different voltage accessories. For daily use, users must follow the factory original voltage configuration, avoid private voltage modification and mismatched assembly, so as to ensure the stable power output and long-term safe operation of the Citycoco scooter power system.
