Citycoco Battery Overcharge Protection

Time:2026-05-27 Views:132

Overcharge protection is a critical safety feature of Citycoco lithiumion battery packs, designed to prevent cell damage, capacity loss, overheating, and even fire or explosion caused by excessive charging. All genuine Citycoco battery packs integrate a smart BMS (Battery Management System) as the core of overcharge protection, working alongside dedicated charging protocols and hardware safeguards.

The BMS continuously monitors the voltage of each individual cell and the entire battery pack during charging. For a standard 60V Citycoco battery (16 cells in series), the overcharge cutoff voltage is set at 67.2V (4.2V per cell), the safe upper limit for lithiumion chemistry. When the pack voltage approaches 67.2V, the BMS automatically reduces the charging current; if voltage exceeds the threshold, it cuts off charging entirely to prevent overcharging.

In addition to voltage monitoring, the BMS tracks charging current and temperature to enhance overcharge safety. The maximum charging current is limited to 35A for standard packs, preventing rapid charging that can cause overheating and overcharge. If the battery temperature rises above 60°C during charging, the BMS suspends charging until the temperature cools to a safe range.

Citycoco batteries also use CCCV (Constant CurrentConstant Voltage) charging, which works with the BMS to avoid overcharge. Initially, the charger supplies a constant current to charge the battery quickly; as the battery nears full capacity, the charger switches to constant voltage, gradually reducing the current to prevent overcharging. Only original or BMScompatible chargers should be used, as unqualified chargers may bypass BMS protection and cause overcharge.

Physical design also supports overcharge safety: highquality packs feature insulated, flameretardant casings and fuse protection to contain potential hazards. With these multilayered safeguardsBMS monitoring, precise voltage control, current limiting, temperature protection, and compatible chargingthe Citycoco batterys overcharge protection system ensures safe, reliable charging and extends battery life.
