Citycoco Battery Not Holding Charge After Storage

Time:2026-11-04 Views:165

It is a very common fault that Citycoco batteries fail to hold charge after long-term storage, and the core inducement is improper storage habits leading to battery dormancy and capacity loss. Lithium batteries have a natural self-discharge characteristic, with a daily self-discharge rate of about 0.5% to 1%. If the Citycoco battery is stored idle for more than 1 to 2 months without maintenance, the residual power will be continuously consumed. Especially when stored with low power (below 20%), the battery voltage will drop to the over-discharge protection threshold, triggering the BMS deep dormancy mode. After entering dormancy, the battery cannot store power normally or the power drops rapidly after charging, showing the phenomenon of "full charge in one minute and power off in one minute".

Poor storage environment will aggravate the battery’s inability to hold charge. Long-term storage in high-temperature, humid, or low-temperature frozen environments will damage the internal chemical activity of the battery. High-temperature storage accelerates the aging and failure of battery electrolytes and separators, leading to irreversible capacity attenuation. Humid environments easily cause battery surface moisture and internal circuit oxidation, resulting in poor contact and increased power consumption. Low-temperature storage will cause lithium precipitation inside the battery, reducing the effective capacity. In addition, if the battery power switch is not turned off during storage, the scooter’s controller and peripheral circuits will continue to consume tiny current, leading to cumulative power loss and deep over-discharge of the battery, which is the main reason for poor charge retention after storage.

There are effective repair and preventive solutions for battery charge failure after storage. For newly dormant batteries that cannot hold charge, users can activate them through low-current slow charging: use the original charger to charge continuously for 4 to 6 hours, even if the indicator light shows full charge, to wake up the dormant cells. For batteries with severe capacity loss caused by long-term over-discharge, professional cell balancing and activation equipment is required for repair. To avoid this problem fundamentally, standard storage habits must be developed: store the battery with 50% to 60% power, turn off the power switch completely, place it in a dry and constant temperature indoor environment, and perform a supplementary charge once every 1 month to maintain cell activity. Standard storage can completely avoid dormancy and charge failure problems.
