Citycoco Battery Low Temperature Performance Below zero degrees Celsius

Time:2026-11-03 Views:39

Citycoco lithium batteries have obvious performance attenuation in low-temperature environments below 0°C, which is a physical and chemical characteristic of lithium-ion batteries and cannot be completely avoided. In low-temperature environments, the electrolyte activity inside the battery decreases significantly, and the migration speed of lithium ions slows down, resulting in increased internal resistance and reduced discharge efficiency. When the temperature drops to 0°C, the available capacity of a standard Citycoco 48V lithium battery will drop by 20% to 30% compared with normal temperature (25°C), and the actual cruising range will be shortened accordingly. When the temperature continues to drop to -10°C or lower, the available capacity may be reduced by more than 50%, and the battery discharge power will be severely limited.

Low temperatures also affect the discharge stability and safety of Citycoco batteries. In high-load working scenarios such as rapid acceleration and hill climbing in winter, the battery’s increased internal resistance will cause instantaneous voltage drop, easily triggering the controller’s low-voltage protection and resulting in sudden power cut during riding, which affects riding safety. In addition, low-temperature charging is extremely harmful to Citycoco batteries. Charging below 0°C will lead to lithium precipitation on the cell surface, forming irreversible lithium crystals. These crystals will pierce the battery diaphragm, reduce cell capacity permanently, and even cause internal short circuits and battery bulging, greatly shortening the battery service life. Most original BMS systems will automatically prohibit low-temperature charging, but inferior aftermarket batteries lack this protection function and are more prone to low-temperature damage.

Targeted optimization methods can effectively improve the low-temperature use performance of Citycoco batteries and reduce aging damage. In winter low-temperature environments, users should preheat the battery before use: place the battery in a warm indoor environment for 1 to 2 hours to restore electrolyte activity before installation and riding. Avoid high-load riding operations such as full-speed driving and steep hill climbing in low temperature, and adopt gentle acceleration and constant-speed driving to reduce battery discharge pressure. Charging must be carried out indoors at room temperature above 10°C, never outdoors in low temperature. For long-term outdoor parking, remove the battery and store it indoors warmly to avoid long-term low-temperature freezing. These low-temperature maintenance measures can maximize the retention of battery performance and avoid permanent capacity loss caused by cold environments.
