Sudden battery power cut-out during riding is a common faulty phenomenon of Citycoco electric scooters, which not only affects riding experience but also brings potential safety hazards during high-speed riding. This problem is not simply caused by insufficient battery power but mainly attributed to BMS protection mechanism triggering, poor circuit contact, battery cell aging, and vehicle line failure. Many users mistakenly restart the scooter directly after power cut-out, which only temporarily solves the problem and cannot eliminate the root cause, leading to repeated intermittent power failure during subsequent riding. Systematic troubleshooting and targeted repair are required to completely resolve the cut-out issue.
The most frequent cause of riding power cut-out is the BMS over-discharge and over-current protection trigger. The Citycoco battery’s built-in BMS is responsible for monitoring cell voltage, discharge current, and temperature in real time. When riding uphill, accelerating sharply, or carrying heavy loads, the motor requires instantaneous high current output. If the battery is aging with increased internal resistance or individual cells have inconsistent voltage, the instantaneous current will exceed the BMS protection threshold, forcing the battery to cut off power automatically to protect the cells from damage. In addition, when the battery remaining power is lower than 15%, the cell voltage drops rapidly under load, easily triggering low-voltage protection and causing sudden power failure during riding.
Poor hardware contact and line faults are another major cause of intermittent battery cut-outs. Long-term vibration during scooter riding will loosen the battery positive and negative terminal plugs, resulting in poor contact between the battery and the vehicle power circuit. Vibration will cause instantaneous circuit disconnection during riding, leading to sudden power cut and vehicle stalling. Oxidation and rust on battery terminals will increase contact resistance, causing unstable power supply and intermittent power failure. Moreover, damaged, aging, or shorted vehicle power lines, loose controller wiring, and water ingress in the battery compartment will also cause abnormal power disconnection during riding.
Battery cell aging and unbalanced cell performance are deep-seated causes of repeated cut-out failures. After long-term use, individual cells inside the Citycoco battery pack suffer from capacity attenuation and voltage lag. When the overall battery power is still sufficient, the individual weak cell will first reach the low-voltage protection threshold under load, causing the BMS to cut off the entire battery power supply. To solve this problem thoroughly, users should first clean and fasten battery terminals, check vehicle line integrity, avoid over-load and sharp acceleration riding. For batteries with serious cell imbalance, professional cell balancing or BMS reset is required; severely aged batteries need to be replaced to eliminate frequent power cut-out faults.
