Citycoco Battery Drain When Not in Use

Standby power drain, also known as self-discharge, is an inevitable physical characteristic of Citycoco 60V 20Ah lithium iron phosphate batteries when not in use, and understanding its discharge rules is crucial to prolonging battery service life. Different from lead-acid batteries with severe self-discharge defects, LiFePO4 batteries for Citycoco scooters have a very low natural standby power consumption. Under normal room temperature and fully static state, the monthly self-discharge rate of a new and healthy Citycoco lithium battery is only 2% to 3%, which means the battery only loses a small part of its capacity after long-term standby without use, and will not cause rapid power loss.

Multiple factors affect the standby drain speed of Citycoco batteries, among which temperature is the most critical external factor. High temperature environment will significantly accelerate the self-discharge rate of lithium batteries. When the storage temperature exceeds 30℃, the monthly standby power loss of Citycoco batteries will rise to 5% to 8%, and high temperature will also accelerate the aging of internal cells and BMS circuits. On the contrary, low temperature below 0℃ will also increase standby power consumption slightly and cause temporary capacity attenuation. In addition, the working state of the built-in BMS system also affects standby drain. The BMS needs to consume a tiny amount of power to maintain real-time monitoring of battery voltage, current and temperature when the battery is idle, which is the main source of long-term standby power loss of Citycoco batteries.

Improper storage habits will aggravate the standby drain and cause irreversible damage to Citycoco batteries. Long-term full-power storage is the most common mistake. When the battery is kept at 100% power for a long time without use, the internal lithium ions will remain in a high-activity state, which will accelerate cell aging, increase self-discharge speed, and easily lead to capacity attenuation. Similarly, long-term zero-power standby will cause over-discharge protection of BMS, resulting in battery dormancy and even scrapping. The optimal standby storage state for Citycoco 60V 20Ah batteries is 50% to 70% residual power, which can minimize self-discharge and protect cell activity.

Effective maintenance measures can significantly reduce unnecessary standby drain of Citycoco batteries. For scooters that are not used for a long time, users should charge the battery to 60% power and store it in a dry, ventilated and constant temperature environment of 15-25℃. It is recommended to supplement the power once every 1-2 months to avoid excessive power loss caused by self-discharge. At the same time, disconnect the battery output line when parking for a long time to cut off the standby power consumption of peripheral circuits. Standardized standby maintenance can not only reduce power waste, but also effectively extend the overall cycle life of the Citycoco battery, ensuring stable performance in long-term use.
