The 16S battery configuration is a mainstream series combination scheme for high-performance Citycoco lithium battery packs, referring to the series connection of 16 individual lithium-ion battery cells to form a complete battery pack. This configuration is mainly matched with ternary lithium battery cells, which have a single-cell nominal voltage of 3.7V and a full-charge voltage of 2V. After 16 cells are connected in series, the total nominal voltage reaches 59.2V, and the full-charge voltage is 67.2V, which is commonly defined as a 60V high-voltage battery specification in the Citycoco scooter industry. The 16S configuration is widely used in modified high-power Citycoco models above 1500W, solving the power shortage problem of low-series battery packs and becoming the preferred configuration for users pursuing high speed and strong power.
The structural design and performance advantages of the 16S configuration are very prominent in Citycoco battery applications. Compared with the 14S (52V) configuration, the 16S setup significantly improves the overall voltage and peak power of the battery pack. The higher nominal voltage enables the motor to obtain stronger torque output, effectively improving the scooter’s top speed and climbing performance. Citycoco scooters equipped with 16S battery packs can easily reach a top speed of 60-70km/h, and can stably climb steep slopes of more than 15 degrees, which is suitable for complex road conditions such as mountain roads and suburban ramps. At the same time, the 16S configuration supports higher discharge current, with a peak discharge current up to 60A-80A, meeting the high-power instantaneous output demand of high-speed motors and avoiding power lag during rapid acceleration.
The 16S configuration has strict requirements on supporting accessories and assembly processes to ensure operational safety and stability. First, it must be equipped with a dedicated 16S BMS, which supports voltage detection and protection for 16 series cells, realizing independent overvoltage and undervoltage protection for each cell to prevent individual cell failure from affecting the overall battery pack performance. Second, the matching charger must be a professional 67.2V lithium battery charger to ensure full and safe charging of the 16S battery pack, avoiding undercharging or overcharging damage. In addition, during assembly, the 16S cells need to be strictly screened for consistency in capacity, internal resistance, and voltage. Cells with excessive parameter differences will cause unbalanced charging and discharging, leading to reduced battery life and frequent protection failures. Standard 16S configuration assembly can maximize the performance of high-power Citycoco scooters while ensuring long-term stable and safe operation of the battery system.
