Can I Upgrade Citycoco Battery from 60V to 72V

Time:2026-10-15 Views:113

It is technically feasible to upgrade a Citycoco battery from 60V to 72V, but the modification cannot be done simply by replacing the battery alone, and it requires matching upgrades of supporting electrical components to avoid equipment damage and safety hazards. The original 60V Citycoco scooter is equipped with a 60V-specific controller, motor and charger, which are designed to adapt to 60V voltage input. Directly installing a 72V battery on the original 60V electrical system will cause excessive voltage input, burn out the controller and motor coil, and even trigger short circuits and battery spontaneous combustion in severe cases. Therefore, complete supporting modifications are essential for safe and effective voltage upgrade.

The core supporting modifications for 60V to 72V battery upgrade include three key components: controller, charger and instrument panel. First, replace the original 60V controller with a 72V compatible controller matching the motor power (1500W or 2000W) to ensure stable voltage regulation and current output. Second, replace the original 60V dedicated charger with a 72V special charger to avoid insufficient charging or overcharging damage to the new 72V battery. Third, upgrade the vehicle instrument panel, because the original 60V meter cannot accurately display the 72V battery power and voltage, resulting in inaccurate power display and failure to judge the remaining power correctly. In addition, it is necessary to check the vehicle wiring harness to ensure it can withstand 72V high voltage and avoid line aging and burnout.

Upgrading from 60V to 72V battery brings obvious performance improvements and also has certain limitations. After the upgrade, the vehicle’s maximum speed and climbing power will be significantly improved, the motor response is more sensitive, and the battery cruising range is increased by 15%-25% due to higher battery capacity. However, the modification will increase the overall vehicle weight and power consumption per kilometer, and the battery charging time will be extended accordingly. Moreover, private voltage modification will void the original vehicle warranty and may not comply with local electric vehicle management regulations. It is recommended that users with no modification experience find professional maintenance personnel for construction to ensure the safety and stability of the modified vehicle.
