The primary source of noise in power banks is the internal cooling fan (if equipped) and the switching power supply. The fan may produce a low humming noise when it is running, especially at higher speeds. The switching power supply, which converts the batterys DC power to the AC or DC power required by the connected device, can also produce a faint buzzing noise due to the switching of electrical currents. This noise is usually very low, but it can become noticeable in quiet environments if the power bank is not properly designed.

To control noise levels, manufacturers use several design measures. For cooling fans, they select high-quality, low-noise fans with optimized blade designs that reduce airflow noise. For the switching power supply, manufacturers use advanced circuit design techniques to minimize the switching noise, such as using high-frequency switching chips that produce noise at frequencies beyond the human hearing range. The outer casing of the power bank also plays a role in noise controldense, rigid materials (such as aluminum alloy) can absorb and dampen noise, while soft materials (such as silicone) can reduce vibration and noise transmission.
