Proper charging habits are essential for extending the service life of Citycoco electric scooter batteries, ensuring safety, and maintaining optimal performance. First and foremost, always use the specially equipped original charger provided by the manufacturer. Irregular or unqualified chargers may have mismatched voltage or current, which can damage the battery’s BMS, shorten its service life, or even cause safety hazards such as overheating, swelling, or fire. The original charger is designed to match the battery’s specifications—for example, the 60V 20Ah battery typically uses a 67.2V charger with a 5A charging current, ensuring a safe and efficient charging process. When charging, follow the correct order: insert the battery box plug first, then connect the charger to the AC 220V power supply; after charging is complete, disconnect the power supply first, then remove the battery box plug to avoid electric shock or damage to the charger.
Avoid overcharging and deep discharging to protect the battery. The charging time for Citycoco batteries usually ranges from 4 to 8 hours: a completely discharged 60V 20Ah battery can be charged to over 95% within 5 hours and 100% within 8 hours. When the charger indicator light turns from red (charging) to green (fully charged), the battery enters a trickle charge stage—do not leave the battery charging for an extended period (such as overnight), as this can cause overcharging and accelerate battery aging. It is recommended to disconnect the charger within 1 hour after the indicator turns green. Additionally, do not charge the battery when it is completely discharged; when the remaining power is 20-30%, charge it in a timely manner to avoid deep discharge, which can damage the battery cells.
Pay attention to the charging environment and safety precautions. Charging should be carried out indoors in a cool, ventilated place, avoiding sealed spaces, direct sunlight, or high-temperature environments (above 40℃), as this can cause the charger or battery to overheat. Do not charge the battery near water or in a wet environment to prevent electric shock or short circuit. If the charger is damaged, has an abnormal smell, or the shell becomes overheated during charging, stop charging immediately and replace or repair the charger. For new Citycoco scooters, the battery is usually delivered with an 80% charge—recharge it for 3-10 hours before the first use to activate the battery cells. If the scooter is not used for more than 1 month, the battery will self-discharge (losing about 5% of its capacity per month), so it is recommended to charge it before use to maintain battery activity. Finally, do not touch the positive and negative terminals of the battery directly with metal during charging to avoid short circuits.
